Day 2 - Moreno Valley to Indio - 94 miles - 1,903 feet climbing - 5:36 of riding
The day started at a cool 47 degrees in Moreno Valley and climbed to close to 90 degrees in Indio, CA.
Not only did the temperature climb, but so did we! At about Mile 23 we had a 6 mile climb that took me 30 minutes to climb, but it was followed by a nice tailwind to our first SAG (“Support And Gear”, i.e. rest stop) of the day. After the entire crew re-grouped, we went through the Morongo Indian Reservation with a police escort.
After that we were treated to an over 30 mile downhill with a tailwind!
And Mark, in the crew I have been riding with, got the first flat. So he got to change it with several of us “supervising”!At the final SAG, I made a rookie mistake and didn’t fill up both my water bottles. Rolled out of Palm Springs for the last 25 miles and got a little parched with only hot water in my bottles at the end of the 94 mile ride.
Tomorrow we strap on the Camelbaks and ride through the desert on I-10. Stay tuned!
Savor the Journey // Achieve the Goal
Nicely done Todd...keep it up..having a 30 mile downhill ride like that is encouraging.
ReplyDeleteWay to go. The spring desert must be beautiful with all the rain they had this winter. Fill up those bottles especially if death valley is anywhere close.
ReplyDeletehey! That's the same lane I drive my golf car on. Watch out for old people ya' hear
