Day 10 - Holbrook, AZ to Gallup, NM - 92 miles - 2,411 feet of climbing - 5:37 hours in the saddle
Before I describe today, let’s go back to yesterday:
Correction - I had 3 flats not 2 as reported yesterday. I woke up this morning to this sunrise and a flat tire and had it changed before 6:00 am
Addendum to yesterday - One of my creative Cawley Partners’ colleagues, Kristi, personalized the verse to the Eagles song, Take It Easy:
Standing on a corner in Winslow Arizona
Such a fine sight to see
It’s a Todd my lord on a Cervelo not a Ford
Slowing down to take a nice selfie
Now on to todays ride, which was the second of back to back 90 mile rides and fairly uneventful. There were 2 SAGs, most of the riding on I-40, fortunately did not get overtaken by the storm cloud, wondered why a long train had no cargo, entered the Navajo Nation, traffic stopped on I-40 for well over a mile due to an accident, crossed another state line into New Mexico, lost an hour (now on Mountain time)
Entering into the Navajo Nation and seeing the road signs for Window Rock and Shiprock, made me think of the author Tony Hillerman’s (and now his daughter Anne Hillerman) Navajo Detective mystery novels. The stories were set in this very area. I was introduced to them by my late father-in-law, Dick Judson. He loved them so!
Going to turn in early tonight. Tomorrow we go over the Continental Divide!
Savor the Journey // Achieve the Goal
Wow! Great narrative and beautiful pictures to boot. I'm excited for you crossing the continental divide tomorrow, I always wanted to do that, but then turn around quickly before anyone notices. Ride on bro!
