Day 35 - Crawfordsville, IN to Indianapolis, IN to Greenfield, IN - 76 miles - 764 feet of climbing - 4:54 hours in the saddle

Today’s ride was quite a pleasant mix of farmland, small towns, suburban, urban and trails.  At SAG 1 I mentioned that I was feeling overall fatigued.  We have been on the road for over 30 days. Paula said that was common for riders at this point on the tour.  Maybe I was just fatigued of the farmland scenery!  And for a farmboy to say that!  After SAG 1 my legs came alive as we rode through several small towns.  Flags were flying in preparation for July 4 or maybe they fly year round.  And the ever present Crossroads van (1 of 2) that looks out for us throughout the ride.

We rode into the suburbs of Indianapolis, where they are infatuated with the checkered flag.  There were checkered flags prominently display next to American flags, fences painted in the checkered pattern and even checkered fire hydrants.

As we approached downtown Indianapolis, we rode on the White River Trail.  I felt a calm after weeks of riding on Interstates, highways, etc.  On the trail we rode past the Zoo and also saw Lucas Oil Stadium.  Indianapolis is the capital of the state and the Downtown felt vibrant and clean.Much more than I expected!

From Downtown we headed for SAG 2 and the Pennsy Trail (built on an old right-of-way for the Pennsylvania Railroad).  We followed it for close to 10 miles.  I lost track of the trail a couple of times because of calibration issues with my Wahoo telling me to turn 500 feet after the turn.  Lisa and Lee got me back on the trail and we rode to Greenfield together.

Met up with Barbara, Peter, Spencer and Chad at The Depot for lunch.  It is located in a converted grain elevator that is on a bike/hike trail.  Next to The Depot there is a park with a stage and they were doing a sound check for a concert tonight.

With a short ride of 53 miles tomorrow, we have a delayed start time of 9:30.  Hopefully we get more trail riding!

Savor the Journey // Achieve the Goal
